Permanent Celebration Committee News

Posted May 27th, 2008

The 17th Annual Tolland Memorial Day Parade was a huge success on Sunday and, as evidenced by the growing attendance each year, is a popular community event. Sincere thanks go out to the Permanent Celebration Committee and the numerous volunteers who plan and organize the event. The Permanent Celebration Committee is a town committee whose members are appointed by the Town Council. It can seat up to seven members, but currently has only two members. Residents who are in interested in joining the Permanent Celebration Committee are encouraged to send a letter of interest addressed to the Town Council at 21 Tolland Green or via e-mail to towncouncil@tolland.org.

The Committee also plans and organizes the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony held in December. Established in 1992, the purpose of the Committee is to “recognize, accommodate and foster pride and patriotism among the citizens of Tolland in our nation, our state and our town and demonstrate evidence thereof through the development and conduct of programs and activities.” It typically meets one night per month at the town hall, with the frequency of meetings increasing or decreasing at different times throughout the year depending on the Committee’s work. Questions may be directed to the Town Manager’s Office at 871-3600. For information on other town board/commission vacancies, please visit the board/commission page of this website by clicking here.
