Changes to Building Fees & Penalties
Posted May 3rd, 2010Attention Residents and Contractors Working in the Town of Tolland Effective July 1, 2010, the building permit fees for the Town of Tolland are increasing. The minimum permit fee is increasing from $20 for the first $1,000 value of work to $30. The additional $12 per thousand and fraction thereof will remain the same.
Also effective July 1, 2010, we will be charging a $25 re-inspection fee for each re-inspection after the first re-inspection for the same violation.
Additionally, effective January 1, 2011 there will be a penalty for work commencing prior to obtaining permits and approvals, equal to the original permit fee with a $200 minimum and $1,000 maximum fine. *
*Any work that has been completed or commenced without obtaining permits and approvals will not be assessed a penalty fine until January 1, 2011. This is a 6-month period to obtain the proper permits and approvals for completed work.
Finally, subsequent purchasers of residential property who determine after the purchase that appropriate building permits were not acquired shall not be assessed a fine for any remedial work done to come into compliance with the building code. However, regular permit fees for work shall apply.
