A Message from Steve Werbner, Town Manager

November 6, 2011

To The Residents of the Town of Tolland:

The four o’clock report from our CL&P representative is that some thirteen line crews, five tree crews and three service crews are working in various locations in TOLLAND. Streets where crews are working include Old Post, Loehr, Carter, Reed,Rhodes, Walbridge Hill, and Merrow.  The CL&P outage report says we have 43% still without power. Hopefully that number will come down as more lines are energized in the next few hours.   Some low hanging wire issues have been addressed as CL&P works on the various roads. Specific concerns such as Village at Crystal Springs have been communicated to the representative and we have been told there are crews in the area. Read the rest of this entry »

To Town Residents from the Town Manager,

We are now in day eight of the storm’s aftermath. As of 10:00 a.m. The CL&P website says we are at 44% outage. Fortunately we did get power at our elderly housing complex so the thirty residents are now safe. It took CL&P two and one half hours to get the power restored at this priority site that we have been asking be addressed for two days. Read the rest of this entry »

A Message From Steve Werbner, Town Manager

November 5, 2011

It is now 3:00 pm. and I have just met with our CL &P representative. The news is no better at this point. Our percentage outage has gone from 50% to 56% which to me means we are going in the wrong direction. Our elderly housing complex remains without power due to a problem with the pole in the area. This is a priority, but no time frame for repair is given. We have one line crew on Old Stafford road and a crew in Willington working on Rt. 32 feeder lines. The crew working on Old Post has not completed their work, but it appears they have left. The four line crews we were to receive have not shown up. Roads with low hanging wires interfering with fire apparatus include potions of Browns Bridge Road, Cook Road, Eastview Terrace, Fox Ridge Drive, Gottier Road, Grahaber Road, Grandview Street, Harriet Drive, Kozley Road, Mountain Spring Road, Nedwied Road, Shenipsit Lake Road, Sugar Hill Road, Webber Road, Willie Circle. Numerous other roads have wires lying on the side of the road. Read the rest of this entry »

Tolland’s Financial Rating

September 22, 2011

The Town of Tolland has recently been informed that after a financial review by Fitch that our AA+ rating has been confirmed and that Standard and Poor’s has improved our AA rating by going to a Positive outlook from Stable.  These are extremely high ratings achieved by only a few other communities in our area.  The ability to improve our bond rating in these tenuous financial times is indication of the strength the rating agencies view the Towns financial condition, its financial policies, its long term debt and the Town’s management structure.  Bonds will be sold in the market over the next week to fund previously approved capital projects.
