    Conserving Tolland

Conserving Tolland PAC was founded in 2000 as a grassroots group to proactively encourage action to conserve and preserve land in Tolland. Since Conserving Tolland’s work began, the town has passed the 1,000 acre milestone in acres of land conserved. Some landowners have also chosen to donate their land for permanent protection. The townspeople have warmly supported 3 separate referenda for $2 million each to allow bonding authority. With the help of Town staff, the Town has received $1.9 million in matching State and Federal grants. The Town Council responded to the residents wishes by purchasing land and easements to protect land in perpetuity. Conserving Tolland has been invited to numerous towns in the State to give advice to Conservation Commissions and other conservation groups interested in grass roots work. The group has been awarded the Conservation Group of the Year award by the Joshua Land Trust and is recognized by State and Federal groups for a record of success. Conserving Tolland INC will work in a non-profit status to encourage conservation through education. Mailing Address: Conserving Tolland, P.O. The Tolland Conservation Corps was established in 2004 and is made up of volunteer stewards who care for many of the open space parcels in Tolland. The Corps does such work as creating new trails as well as on-going maintenance of existing trails, building bridges for stream crossings, installing erosion control systems, and improving public access to the parcel to include parking areas and trail heads. If you enjoy working outdoors with a group of conservation-minded volunteers, you would probably enjoy working with the Corps. We invite you to attend one of our work sessions which are generally held on Saturdays in the spring and fall. We are always looking for volunteers. For additional information, please contact Ken Hankinson at 871-7592 or via e-mail at tollandconservationcorps@yahoo.com.
