The Town of Tolland Human Services Department provides adult and family support to residents in need through a variety of services, programs and resources. We strive to enable residents of all ages the ability to achieve an enhanced quality of life.

The Department will assist residents with applications and redetermination forms for local State and/or Federal resource programs. Fuel Assistance programs are also available to eligible residents from November to March. The Tolland Housing Rehabilitation program is administered through the Human Services Department for eligible residents who are in need of home repair.

A central focus for the Department of Human Services has been on the family. Since an individual experiencing a problem can affect the whole family, the Human Services staff encourages treatment of the entire family when even one member of that family is experiencing difficulty.

The Department of Human Services works collaboratively with the school, Town departments, clergy, Resident State Troopers, service providers and community civic organizations to develop a strong referral network to help residents access additional services.

The Town provides comprehensive individual and/or family counseling to Tolland residents for a wide variety of issues. All counseling services are highly confidential. Counseling fees are based on a sliding scale.

    The following services are provided:

    • Counseling for children, adolescents and adults
    • Close collaboration with local schools and other providers if requested
    • Crisis intervention for emergent situations
    • Assessment and referral to other community resources based on need when appropriate
    • Grief and Loss support groups
