Tolland Animal Control would like to inform residents that bobcats have been sighted in several areas of town including, Old Post Road, Cider Mill Road, Eaton Road, Charles Street/Old Stafford Road and Shenipsit Lake Road.

Residents should not be alarmed by these sightings but should remember these animals are wild. Please do not try to go near them or feed them. Be sure all trash is protected in closed bins and do not leave dog or cat food outdoors.  Children and pets should not be left unattended if there have been sightings in your area.

These animals prey on smaller animals such as birds, mice, chipmunks, chickens, and rabbits. It is recommended to leave fowl and small farm animals in a securely fenced & covered area and cats indoors, especially at night. If you have unwanted bobcats in your yard, you can try to scare them away by making loud noises such as banging pots & pans or using whistles.

If you see a bobcat that displays any aggression, has lack of coordination, appears disoriented or injured, please contact Tolland Animal Control at 860-871-3676 or the Department of Environmental Protection at 860-424-3333.
