Dog Licenses
The Town Clerk’s Office handles the issuing of dog licenses. Their office is located on the 5th level of the town hall (Hicks Memorial Municipal Center) at 21 Tolland Green, phone: 871-3630.
Dog licenses may be purchased when a dog reaches the age of 6 months. All dogs over the age of 6 months residing in Connecticut must have a current license.
When purchasing a dog license, a rabies certificate must be presented to receive the license.
To be eligible for the reduced fee, a spay/neuter certificate must be shown. The cost of a license for a spayed/neutered dog is $8.00 and the cost for a dog that is not spayed/neutered is $19.00.
Licenses must be renewed annually in the month of June thereafter. Between June 1st and June 30th, you may stop by the Town Clerk’s Office to purchase a new tag. Or, you may mail a copy of your dog’s current rabies certificate, proof of spay/neuter (if applicable), and the appropriate fee along with your check payable to “Town of Tolland,” to the Town Clerk’s Office, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084, Attn: Dog Licenses. Any paperwork you submit will be returned to you when the dog tag is mailed out. The inclusion of a self-addressed, stamped envelope is appreciated.
A person who moves to Tolland whose dog was previously licensed in another Connecticut town for the current year may transfer the registration for $1.00 if proof of licensing is shown.
Any dog owner found not to have licensed their dog after July 1st is subject to fines. If you had a dog licensed in 2007 and no longer have that dog, please call the Town Clerk’s Office at 871-3630 to remove that dog from the listing.
FEES:
Cost of licensing a spayed/neutered dog is $8.00.
Cost of licensing an unspayed/unneutered dog is $19.00.
A lost tag can be replaced for $0.50.
There is a late fee of $1.00 per month for all dogs licensed after June 30th.
