When the Registrars of Voters (860-871-3634) are not available, the Town Clerk can provide voter registration cards. Each person who wishes to become an elector must present identification. Identification would include a driver’s license or anything that has your name and one of the following: a photo, signature or address.

The Town Clerk’s Office issues absentee ballots to eligible residents beginning (31) days prior to an election. Elections are held each year on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November.

In order to receive an absentee ballot, an application must be completed. Applications are available in the Town Clerk’s Office on the 5th level of Hicks Memorial Municipal Center (town hall) at 21 Tolland Green. The application may be returned in person or by mail. If returned by mail, you will receive the absentee ballot by mail. Absentee ballots must be received by 8:00 p.m. on election day to be counted.

If you find you can vote in person after submitting an absentee ballot, you must go to the Town Clerk’s Office before 10:00 a.m. on election day to request withdrawal of the absentee ballot. The Town Clerk will issue a signed statement for you to present to the moderator at your polling place in order for you to vote in person.

If you have an unexpected illness or physical disability commencing within (6) days before the polls close on election or primary day, you can still vote. Call your Registrars of Voters at 871-3634 or your Town Clerk at 871-3630 for the procedures to follow.
