FLYING TIGERS, HOME MAKEOVERS, AND SPRING TRAINING WITH THE FRIENDS
You know spring is near when the Red Sox and Yankees begin spring training. This March you can ”Step Up to The Plate” at the library by becoming a member of the Friends of Tolland Public Library. Volunteers will staff a membership table to answer any questions you have about our organization and hand out applications. You can become a new member or renew your existing membership in person or by mail. The cost of membership begins at only $5.00 for students and seniors. If you join or renew, you will receive a $2.00 coupon toward the purchase of used books or admission to our annual book sale preview. In addition, your name will be entered into a drawing for a book on CD, a $50.00 value. Your tax-deductible membership pays for passes to area attractions, including Mystic Aquarium and the New England Air Museum; funds children and adult programs; and allows the library to update computers, software and furnishings. For those who would like to donate time and expertise as well, there are many opportunities to help support our programs and fundraisers. We meet on the first Monday of every month, except July and August, at 11 a.m. in the Program Room. Let’s hit this one out of the park for Tolland’s library, our children, and ourselves.
On Wednesday, March 10, Woodstock native Tom Pandolfi will discuss the history of the Flying Tigers in World War II. Mr. Pandolfi, a former Army Special Forces Soldier, has one of the largest collections of Flying Tiger memorabilia in the world. He is currently a volunteer with the CT Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves and was instrumental in the design and construction of a “Walk of Honor” in tribute to CT service members who have lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Registration is requested, but not mandatory, and does not guarantee a seat.
On Wednesday, March 24, Chuck Oakes will share helpful tips on “How to Make Your Home Senior Friendly.“ Mr. Oakes, who lives in South Windsor, is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist and author of the book, Making Your Home Senior-Friendly. Seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers will learn creative ways to improve their living spaces.
Both programs begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Program Room of the library. For more information or to register, call the library at 860 871-3620.
Friends of Tolland Public Library is a non-profit organization. All funds raised are used to support the library. Tolland Public Library is located at 21 Tolland Green.
