Message From the Fire Chief

The lives and property of over 15,000 people living and working in Tolland’s 41 square mile area are protected by the dedicated members of the Tolland Fire Department.

The TFD is a modern “combination department” made up of both career public servants and volunteer personnel. Six paid Public Safety Officers and one supervisor are on duty Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. A small number of volunteers are also available during these hours to supplement this coverage. Evening and weekend hours are covered by the department’s volunteers. The town’s Public Safety Officers are available on a “call back” basis when needed.

The TFD provides fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue, emergency medical and ambulance services both for the Town of Tolland and, as necessary, its surrounding communities. It operates four fire stations and one central administration and training facility. As the town grows, the department continues to intensify its training, develop its members’ skills, educate the public, and expand its capabilities to meet the town’s needs.

It has been my privilege to serve as the Town’s Director of Public Safety and as Chief of this progressive, service-oriented department since 2000. My job would be impossible without the dedication and commitment of the men and women, paid and volunteer, who make up the department. The citizens, visitors and business population of Tolland have a fire department that is well equipped and prepared to fulfill its mission of preserving life and protecting property.

Have you ever thought about joining the fire department and giving back to your community? The volunteers of The Tolland Fire Department, Inc. have been providing their services to the town since 1933. Becoming a volunteer Firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician is a great way to serve.  Do you have a special talent? Volunteers with special skills are important to the success of the department. If you would like to learn more about how you can serve your community, call the department at (860) 871-3677 weekdays between 9 A.M. and 4 P.M. or log on to the Tolland Fire Department website and click the link Join Us.

Sincerely,

John C. Littell
Fire Chief and Director of Public Safety
