Becker Conservation Area Invasive Removal

For a Silver Award Project, Girl Scout Troop 65061 focused on the invasive Autumn Olive because of its lack of a natural predator and the speed at which it spreads. In the fall, they cut back some Autumn Olive and coated the stumps with herbicide to slow future regrowth. In the spring, they planted 10 native Inkberry plants. They were planted in groups of two or three so they would cross pollinate. Additional, they installed fencing around the young plants to protect them from deer.
