The Year of the Slaughter occurred in Ireland in 1740-41 and killed at least 38% of the 1740 population of 2.4 million people, proportionately more than the Great Famine. William P. McDermott, author of several Irish history books, will talk about this weather related famine on Saturday, March 17 at 2 PM int he program room of the Tolland Public Library. Bill will also be available to comment on his recently released book Mayo – From Pre-history to Independence which will be on sale. All proceeds benefit the Tolland Public Library.
