Marshall Atwater will be speaking about his book, Stagecoachs and Railroads in Tolland, Vernon and Rockville 1807-1863, on Saturday, April 14 at 2 PM in the Tolland Public Library Program Room. Intense road construction occurred between 1790-1830 with Tolland as the center for turnpikes in northeastern Connecticut. Marshal writes about the proliferation of stagecoach travel and then their demise when the railroad became the preferred mode of transportation.
