Tolland Public Library Art Exhibit Policy

Purpose:  The primary goal of exhibiting art in the Tolland Public Library is to have an opportunity for local artists to display their works in a public setting.  A secondary goal is to enhance interest in the library as a community center.

Exhibition spaces:  The Program Room of the Tolland Public Library has a Walker display picture hanging system as does the Reading Nook.  There are a total of 15 rods with 30 hangers.  Either space is appropriate for hangable art but not for three dimensional art.  Three dimensional art may be displayed on the library circulation desk or in the display cabinets.  The exhibits are all open to the public during library hours except when the Program Room is in use.  Availability of space will be at the discretion of staff.

Artists:  Applications for the use of any of the above mentioned spaces can be found at the library or by clicking here.  Preference will be given to Tolland artists.  Exhibits will be selected at the discretion of staff.

Period of display:  Exhibits are scheduled for one month.  Installation should occur on the first day of the month that the library is open.

Installation:  The artist is responsible for installing their art work and taking it down on the last day of the month that the library is open.

Publicity:  Any press releases, announcements or other forms of publicity must be approved in advance by the library.

Sales:  The Tolland Public Library does not allow solicitation or selling of items in the library.  Art may be purchased directly from the artist but only outside of the library.  The artist’s name and contact information may be made available.  No price tags may be affixed to the works exhibited.
