Diaster Relief Supplies Collection Update

Tolland Emergency Management has just received an update from the Salvation Army.  The immediate need for clothing donations has been met at this time. Thank you to all, for your generosity. The focus of the collection effort now shifts towards non-perishable food items. There is an URGENT need for items such as canned meats, pastas, vegetables, soups, etc. Also baby formula, diapers, personal hygiene and cleaning products. The initial relief efforts and mass feedings have depleted food pantries across the area. Our goal is to replenish the pantries and prepare to supply families with Thanksgiving dinner baskets. Unfortunately due to Hurricane Sandy and the poor economy, more families are in need than was anticipated for this season. These two factors create a real possibility that there won’t be enough food for those who are truly in need.

Drop off locations are: Fire Station 140 at 64 Crystal Lake Road, Fire Station 240 at 3 Rhodes Road or the Fire Training Center at 191 Merrow Road. These locations will be open to accept donations weekdays from 8:00am to 4:30pm. The Tolland Big Y will be accepting donations during regular business hours.

Please remember to check expiration dates and thank you in advance for your generosity.
