Positive Youth Development Programs

Tolland Youth Services challenges youth to reach their full potential. Our programs are designed to assist in the building of internal and external Developmental Assets critical to healthy development; to help youth learn and develop new skills; to engage them in community activities with adults and peers; and to provide them with the opportunity to assume leadership roles. Our programs focus on youth of all ages and their families with a strengths based approach that emphasizes the inherent potential, strengths and capabilities that youth hold.

Tolland Youth Services Community Theater (TYSCT)- Summer Musical Program
The TYSCT originated in 1997 and produces a musical each summer. The program takes place for 5 weeks from the end of June, until the last weekend in July when 2 performances are held. The program is one of the most unique youth development programs available in CT as it includes youth from kindergarten to high school seniors. The program has built in mentorship, peer support and leadership opportunities. Research supports that participation in the arts exposes youth to many of the assets critical to healthy development. TYSCT provides youth with skills and opportunities needed by young people by encouraging youth to explore the creative abilities within themselves and promoting a sense of self-worth through community involvement- supporting positive, responsible relationships for youth with their peers and an inter-generational community of caring adults.
