Waterfront Head Lifeguard Position Vacancy - Updated

The Tolland Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for a Summer Camp Waterfront Head Lifeguard for the Summer Season of June 2024 to late August.  Starting rate is $22.00 per hour.  The position is approximately 20 hours, Monday through Friday, hours Noon-4:00pm.  Applications are available in the Town Manager’s Office, Hicks Memorial Municipal Center, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084 or at www.tolland.org under Help Center.  This is a temporary position with no benefits.  All applications are due back to the Tolland Town Manager’s Office.  Position open until filled.  EOE/AA

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Director of Recreation, the head lifeguard is responsible for the supervision of the beach front staff, surveying a body of water and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water, and administering first aid to injured swimmers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Overseeing seasonal lifeguard staff.
• Opening and closing the beach front each day according to scheduled hours
• Regularly inspect the beach area for hazards and cleanliness.
• Closely monitoring activities related to the waterfront area, identifying any safety issues throughout shift
• Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions
• Maintaining a safe swimming environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training water rescue skills
• American Red Cross First Aid, CPR
• Strong leadership and administrative skills.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum age: 16 years old
• American Red Cross Lifeguard with Waterfront Certification

•  American Red Cross First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification

• Must work flexible hours.  Summer season June-August.
• Attend mandatory training session in Blood Borne Pathogens and overall Departmental policies.
